Following the launch of The Guide to Screening Films, Regional Screen Scotland is delighted to let you know that we’re now receiving applications to our ‘Go And See’ fund, a further part of our Now Showing programme, our follow up to A Cinema Near You.
Scotland has a vibrant network of community cinemas across the country, full of talented, hard-working and knowledgeable people, who run inspiring screenings across their regions. Regional Screen Scotland hopes to help those within the community see how others do it, so they themselves can take away that ingenuity and use it at home.
The idea, in a nutshell, is that you can go and see an event, or screening. ‘Go and See’ is for any volunteers or staff in organisations keen to visit another event to be inspired, learn more, or just get a feel for what community cinema can be.

You may be looking to take your programme in a new direction, or reach a new audience; or you may be looking to embrace a new technology, or link up with others in the community to share ideas and best practice. ‘Go And See’ could allow for a unique opportunity to learn about how other operators reach their communities, and screen films.
RSS’ Networks Coordinator Shona Thomson said, ‘Even though exhibitors work hard to keep screenings affordable, we know that the cost of attending a film screening can mount up, particularly when there’s a distance to travel, as often there is in Scotland. ‘Go And See’ should be able to go some way to covering the cost of tickets, travel and perhaps even an overnight stay.’
To apply for the ‘Go And See’ fund you should get in touch with Colin Farquhar, who is providing support coordination for the Now Showing programme. We’re happy to receive applications from both individuals and organisations.
You can reach Colin at colin@regionalscreenscotland.org and in first instance you should briefly outline the event you want to attend, and why. RSS will then issue you a simple application form, which should be completed and returned. We’ll seek to issue funds to successful applications as quickly as we can.
