Mapping Scotland’s Screen Community is now LIVE!
It’s a dynamic online map and search tool located on the Regional Screen Scotland website that aims to list all film exhibitors and screening venues active prior to the first national lockdown in March 2020.
This new resource is delivered as part of the fixed term cinema development programme A Cinema Near You, delivered by Regional Screen Scotland in partnership with Screen Scotland and Film Hub Scotland.
By accurately providing access to the breadth of our sector, from independent cinemas and multiplexes to film festivals and community film clubs and their venues, Mapping Scotland’s Screen Community is designed to facilitate long-term sustainable relationships within our sector and with other sectors such as film production and local community services, as well as to highlight to policymakers the depth of engagement the sector has with audiences right across the country. It demonstrates the rich diversity and important role of Scotland’s screen sector in the social, economic and cultural landscape immediately prior to the pandemic.
Huge thanks are due to everyone who responded to our call to check their details on the new map, before we made it available publicly. But we know that no such resource can ever be truly comprehensive, so Mapping Scotland’s Screen Community is very much a work in progress, and will over time reflect the changing landscape as we emerge from the pandemic, and RSS is committed to maintaining and updating the map on an ongoing basis.
And another big thank you to the team at Pooka & Co who worked so patiently with us on the map and database design and development.
