Your Festival, Your Community was an event celebrating, learning about and connecting local film festivals from all over Scotland. It was completely free to attend, open to any local film festival organisers in Scotland and the rest of the UK, or people interested in how they can support local film festivals.

Regional Screen Scotland is committed to supporting local film festivals, recognising the essential contribution they make to their communities and to Scotland’s screen culture. We had speakers from local film festivals in the Highlands, Argyll & Bute, Scottish Borders, Perthshire and more, sharing their experiences and discussing our core themes – how to make a festival meaningful, connected to the community and long-lasting.

Celebrating Local Film Festivals

We opened Your Festival, Your Community with an event celebrating local film festivals on Friday 27 April at 5.30pm. This event was a fun and informal occasion, with awards honoring the achievements of local film festivals and the impacts they’ve had on the people in their communities. After the event, there was a buffet dinner reception and further opportunities to network. Friday Programme

Saturday 28 April was a day of learning, sharing and networking, with panel events and workshops catering to the priorities and experiences of the wide variety of local film festivals in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Performing the important role of M.C on Saturday was be Kathy Hubbard, Director of Screenplay festival on Shetland.

About Kathy Hubbard:

Kathy was formerly Head of Development at Shetland Arts. She retired in 2014 but carries on as Shetland’s Screenplay Festival Director, co-curating the programme with Mark Kermode and Linda Ruth Williams. Her obsessions usually betray her in the programming, notably her addiction to documentaries, to films from Scandinavia and the North, and anything involving fur or feathers.  She is also a passionate advocate for children and young people’s rights to see top quality international cinema as well as the usual blockbuster fare.  Kathy is a board member of Regional Screen Scotland. She may really retire one day, but for now, the staff at Shetland Arts just hoover around her.
